When it comes to the Riviera Maya, the options for robust luxury lodging are seemingly endless. From the bustling streets Cancun, down to Playa Del Carmen, all the way down to the art inspired city of Tulum.

Many however have yet to experience the splendor of the premiere RoMarley Beach House, a Black-owned luxury beach club and hotel located just 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport in the tranquil fishing town of Puerto Morelos, Mexico. The sanctity of Puerto Morelos, more affectionately known by the locals as “La Joya del Caribe” (Jewel of the Caribbean) serves as the perfect backdrop to the vibrant, carefree culture of the RoMarley Beach House. Despite being geographically wedged between two tourist laden cities (Cancun and Playa Del Carmen), the town has somehow managed to preserve its small town integrity, lending itself to the modern bohemian appeal of the RoMarley Beach House.

“Being in the Maya Riviera is an excellent way to transcend love outside of myself in trying to bring people here to this region.” Explains Rohan Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley and founder of The RoMarley Beach House. The property, assembled in collaboration with The Fives Hotels & Residences (a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts), was recently upgraded as the newest experience available within the Preferred Hotels & Resorts L.V.X. Collection which represents renowned properties that feature the finest accommodations coupled with attentive, engaging, and exclusive personal service.

The property features a mix of over 90 studio, one, two, and three-bedroom luxury suites overlooking the tranquil golden and turquoise shores of the Riviera Maya. Outfitted with chic modern Mexican décor, the custom-tailored design of each individual suite aims to capture the local culture and traditions, with some suites even incorporating real artifacts native to the region. “It’s the Maya Riviera…and it’s really the concept and the principle of the people of that region” Rohan tells Black & Abroad. “They’re tapped into their reality, they’re tapped into the now and the energy of all the things you have available to you of that region, (you) can only be energized, you can only be inspired.” He adds, regarding the cultural inspiration.

The beach club also boasts two restaurants, featuring international gastronomy and mixology fusions complimented with fresh herbs and spices from the local region. One would also be impressed with the daily sensory experiences including sunrise sound baths and snorkeling excursions. The beach itself offers a lofty music selection, food and beverage service, with the option of sun loungers, beach cabanas, or cocoon-style daybeds ranging in price. Vibe out to the sounds of Dub, Afro, and Latin mixes from a Saturday DJ set, or relax and feast on fresh-caught sea fare on ‘Catch of the Day and Reggae Sundays.’
